Four days a week, I drive between Ramat Beit Shemesh and Jerusalem. Traffic is heavy: new communities, roads, and railway lines proliferating. Lately, I have become fascinated by trucks. They are everywhere, carrying a patchwork of goods, and wearing logos and advertisements in an assortment of languages. Some of the trucks are new; many are old-timers—weathered, cracked, wrinkled, scarred, peeling, banged up. They’ve seen a lot of life. One truck was covered in colorful teddy bears; another truck had huge roosters with psychedelic eggs painted on it in shocking pink. On closer look, I could see magnificent vistas, landscapes, human figures. These trucks, mobile abstract art, are keeping me on the move as they appear and disappear on their journeys.
